P.B.’s Fish and Chips
It was 1971 when Peter and Bobbie Maltha started their career perfecting the fish and chip business. They managed the then-famous Margaret’s Fish and Chips in Agincourt, Ontario. When P.B.’s was opened in 1980, Peter and Bobbie launched their version of the “better poutine”. With layered fresh cheddar cheese curds, homemade gravy and our signature fresh-cut chips, a legend in the poutine world was born.
Today, P.B.’s has three locations which are all family-owned and -operated: the original location in Agincourt (opened 1980), Pickering (2010) and Oshawa (2017). Their fish and chips are the freshest quality halibut, hand-battered in their secret mix of seasonings they have been making for over 40 years.
The story behind P.B.’s Fish and Chips starts with their family’s deep appreciation for food and their love of sharing it with others. Their goal is to make sure that all customers enjoy their meals and feel welcome at P.B.’s like they are a part of the family.
All their recipes are personally tested and approved by Bobbie herself.
P.B.’s Fish and Chips currently sits as one of Canada’s top 12 best fish & chips according to Reader’s Choice Awards, where it was also named “Best Take-out”. They have been featured on Breakfast Television Toronto multiple times for being voted “Top Perogies” in Durham Region by Oshawa Express readers – since 1985!
Today, Peter is retired but still visits every restaurant with Bobbie to ensure everything stays fresh and delicious just how he likes it. Their son Paul now runs the company alongside his wife Monica who has helped them grow over the years from purchasing their first deep fryer to now running the business.
Paul and Monica are continuing with their parents’ legacy in Oshawa by providing excellent food made from fresh ingredients for their loyal customers. They hope to show you what they have always believed in: that good things come from hard work, dedication, passion and most importantly – family!
P.B.’s Fish and Chips is successful because they cut no corners when it comes to quality, freshness or customer service. They are successful because of their hard-working staff that takes every step to ensure every customer leaves satisfied.
P.B.’s Fish and Chips in Oshawa pride themselves on always being successful at the same things they started with over 40 years ago: making homemade food from scratch using locally sourced ingredients, treating customers like family and working together as a successful team all while having fun doing what they do best.
Peter and Bobbie Maltha spent 40 years refining their technique of making fish and chips, resulting in a product that is recognized nationally as one of the best not just in and around Oshawa. Their success is due to the determination they have put into perfecting their business for over four decades. They continue to care about their customers by personally testing and approving every recipe. Today, Paul runs the company alongside his wife Monica while his parents visit each restaurant regularly to ensure everything stays fresh and delicious just how he likes it. P.B.’s Fish and Chips is successful due to hard-working staff who take steps to ensure all customers leave satisfied enough to keep coming back.
